If you’re a writer, you know how painful it is to sit in front of the computer or your notebook and have no idea what you want to say. The frustration can end.
Natalie Goldberg’s Writing Down the Bones is a great book. It’s filled with tips and exercises to get you writing. More importantly, it helps you develop a writing practice. When Goldberg uses the phrase “writing practice”, she gives it the same reverence she gives to “Buddhist practice.” And really, to her, there is no difference.

But even if you’re not a Buddhist, as a writer, you can identify with this book. I know there are plenty of books for writers out there, but as far as I’m concerned, this is really the only one you need. (Though Wild Mind, Goldberg’s sequel to Writing Down the Bones, is also excellent.)
